The short answer
Trinidad Carnival can be as affordable or as lavish as you make it. Watching the Parade of the Bands from the roadside costs nothing. Playing mas in a big all-inclusive band, with flights, accommodation and a full fete schedule, is a serious investment, often the biggest holiday spend of the year for the people who do it.
The single biggest line item for most masqueraders is the costume, so that is where we start. All prices below come straight from the bands' own websites for Carnival 2027, which takes place on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 February 2027, and were checked on 3 October 2026.1 Bands quote in Trinidad and Tobago dollars (TT$) with US dollar equivalents, and we give both where the band does.
Your costume: the big one
Here are real examples from four of the best-known all-inclusive bands:
| Band | Example costume | Price | Drinks on the road |
|---|---|---|---|
| Harts | Revel (male) | TT$4,395 (US$703) | Add-on: TT$895 (US$143) |
| Harts | Polaris | TT$4,995 (US$800) | Add-on: TT$895 (US$143) |
| The Lost Tribe | Jahara (fan) | TT$7,395 (US$1,183) | Included |
| TRIBE | Pyra (female) | TT$7,595 (US$1,215) | Included |
| Bliss | Luna Rossa (female) | TT$7,595 (US$1,215) | Included |

What does that money buy? At an all-inclusive band, a lot more than feathers. TRIBE's road package lists unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks from mobile bars on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, lunch at a rest park on both days, breakfast and snacks on Tuesday, DJs, private security, paramedics, mobile restrooms and roaming photographers.6 The Lost Tribe's list is similar and adds lunch-park concerts and a complimentary shuttle to the band.7 Bliss also includes unlimited premium drinks from its roaming bars on both days.8
Harts works differently: its base price covers the costume and road experience, and the drinks package (its Fully Inclusive Road Experience, or FIRE) is an add-on at TT$895 (US$143), or TT$400 (US$64) for a non-alcoholic student version.2 When you compare bands, compare the total, not the headline number.
For help choosing between them, read How to Choose Your Mas Band, and browse our guide to Trinidad Carnival bands for 2027 for the full price range across every section.
Upgrades and add-ons
The base price buys the base costume. The dramatic pieces you see crossing the stage often cost extra:
- TRIBE (Pyra): cape TT$850 (US$136), headpiece TT$1,695 (US$271), classic backpack TT$1,695 (US$271).3
- Bliss (Luna Rossa): upgraded crown TT$100 (US$16), classic backpack TT$1,200 (US$192), luxe backpack TT$1,950 (US$312), elite backpack TT$4,450 (US$712).5
- Harts (Polaris): large feathered headpiece TT$1,150 (US$184), medium backpack TT$1,700 (US$272), large backpack TT$2,650 (US$424).2
- The Lost Tribe (Jahara): large headpiece TT$550 (US$88), small backpack TT$995 (US$159), bustle only TT$3,700 (US$592), small backpack with bustle TT$4,695 (US$751).4
A big backpack can add the price of a second costume, so decide early whether it is worth it to you. It is also more to carry for two long days in the sun.
Deposits and when you pay
You do not pay everything at once. Bands take a downpayment to secure your costume, then the balance by a set deadline. For Carnival 2027, TRIBE wants costumes paid in full by 30 November 2026 and The Lost Tribe by 31 December 2026, while Harts takes payments up to two weeks before distribution.9,10,11 The downpayments are:
- TRIBE: TT$2,500 (US$400) for all costumes, with an extra downpayment for large and extra-large backpacks. All downpayments are non-refundable.9
- Harts: TT$2,000 (US$320), plus a 50% deposit on feathered add-ons over TT$2,000, or payment in full.11
- The Lost Tribe: TT$2,000 (US$320), due within five days of registration.10
Treat a deposit as money spent. Harts states plainly that once registration is complete there is no refund of deposit, no switching of sections and no changing of measurements.11
J'ouvert
J'ouvert, the pre-dawn mud, paint and powder party that opens Carnival Monday, is usually a much smaller spend than pretty mas, and many visitors do both. Bands sell J'ouvert packages that typically include a T-shirt or monokini and the road experience. At J'ouvert Jumbeez, for example, packages are all-inclusive, must be bought in full, and are made to order, so you cannot switch sizes afterwards.12 Check each band's own registration page for current prices. Fetes, shows and competitions
Fete tickets are the cost that sneaks up on people. The season starts just after Christmas and gets busier the closer you get to Carnival. Ticket prices depend on the type of party: an all-inclusive fete, where food and drinks are part of the ticket, costs much more than a regular fete or a cooler fete where you bring your own drinks.
The easiest way to budget is to pick your fetes first, then add up the actual ticket prices from each promoter's official ticketing page. A sensible first-timer plan might be two or three carefully chosen all-inclusives plus a few cheaper fetes. Panorama, Dimanche Gras and the other Carnival shows at the Queen's Park Savannah are ticketed separately, so add them if they are on your list. Our Trinidad Carnival 2027 fete schedule lists dates as they are confirmed.
Flights and accommodation
These two lines can easily match or exceed your costume. Carnival is the busiest time of year for visitors, and flights into Piarco International Airport and rooms in and around Port of Spain are in heavy demand. Our first-timer's guide recommends booking flights and accommodation 6-10 months ahead.
To keep costs down:
- Book early, ideally before the band launches send everyone searching at once.
- Share. Splitting an apartment or a large house with your crew is usually cheaper per person than separate hotel rooms.
- Think about location. Staying near your band's meeting point can save you a lot in taxis on the road days.
See our where to stay guide for neighbourhoods, and our Trinidad Carnival cost calculator for current price ranges.
Getting around and eating
Day to day, Trinidad can be very reasonable if you eat and travel like a local. Doubles, roti and corn soup from street vendors cost far less than restaurant meals, and maxi taxis (shared minibuses) are the cheapest way to get around. Private drivers and taxis cost more but are worth it late at night and on the big days. Our getting around guide explains your options.
Three ways to do Carnival
Every Carnival budget is personal, but most trips fall into one of three shapes.
Lean. Skip the pretty mas costume. Watch the Parade of the Bands from the roadside for free, play J'ouvert with a band on Carnival Monday morning, and pick a few fetes you really want to attend. You still get the music, the mud and the atmosphere for a fraction of the cost.
Classic. One all-inclusive pretty mas costume, one J'ouvert package and a handful of fetes. With base costumes for 2027 starting at TT$4,395 (US$703) at Harts and around TT$7,400-7,600 (US$1,183-1,215) for the Lost Tribe, TRIBE and Bliss examples above, the costume is the anchor of this budget.2,3,4,5
Full send. A costume with a feathered backpack or bustle, several all-inclusive fetes, Panorama and Dimanche Gras tickets, and a private driver on the road days. In the examples we checked, a single backpack or bustle upgrade ran from TT$995 (US$159) to TT$4,695 (US$751).3,4,5
Paying for it: practical money tips
- Use the bands' own payment options. TRIBE accepts cash and LINX debit at its mas camp and Visa or Mastercard online, and does not take cheques.9 The Lost Tribe takes Visa and Mastercard online, plus cash and local cards at its showroom.10
- Watch the exchange. Bands show US dollar equivalents next to TT$ prices, but your card provider may add foreign transaction fees. Check before you pay a large balance.
- Keep records. Save every confirmation email and receipt until your costume is in your hands.
- Carry some TT cash for street food, water and maxi taxis, and keep it in a small pouch on the road.
A simple budget worksheet
Use this as a checklist. Fill in your own numbers from the official sources.
| Item | What drives the cost | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Pretty mas costume | Band, section, gender, upgrades | Band section pages (examples above) |
| Drinks package | Included at some bands, add-on at others | Band "on the road" pages |
| J'ouvert package | Band and package type | J'ouvert band registration pages |
| Fetes | Number of fetes, all-inclusive or not | Promoters' official ticketing pages |
| Shows (Panorama, Dimanche Gras) | Event and seating | Official ticket sellers |
| Flights | Origin city, booking date | Airlines |
| Accommodation | Area, room type, number of nights, sharing | Where to stay |
| Ground transport | Maxi taxi, taxi or private driver | Getting around |
| Food and water | Street food or restaurants | Budget generously for hot days |
The bottom line
The costume is the biggest single cost and, for the big all-inclusive bands, the published 2027 prices above start at TT$4,395 (US$703) and climb past TT$7,500 (US$1,200) for many women's costumes before upgrades. Everything else, from fetes to flights, depends on your choices and how early you book. Plan the big-ticket items first, register through official channels, read the deposit terms, and leave room in the budget to say yes to one more fete.

Frequently asked questions
How much are Trinidad Carnival costumes?
For Carnival 2027, base costume packages at four of the big all-inclusive bands run from TT$4,395 to TT$9,745. As listed on the bands' websites on 3 October 2026: Harts TT$4,395 to TT$6,195, TRIBE TT$5,695 to TT$9,745, Bliss TT$5,795 to TT$8,945 and The Lost Tribe TT$6,095 to TT$7,795. At Harts, TRIBE and Bliss the cheapest option is the male Revel package, while many women's costumes cost TT$7,000 or more, such as TRIBE's Pyra at TT$7,595 (US$1,215). Backpacks, headpieces and other upgrades cost extra, and Harts sells its drinks option separately.
Do mas band prices include drinks and food?
At many all-inclusive bands, yes. TRIBE, Bliss and The Lost Tribe list unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks on both Carnival days as part of the road package, and TRIBE and The Lost Tribe include lunch at a rest park on both days. Harts sells its drinks option separately, at TT$895 (US$143), or TT$400 (US$64) for a non-alcoholic student version.
How much deposit do I need to secure a costume?
Expect TT$2,000-2,500 up front at the big bands. TRIBE asks for TT$2,500 (US$400) and says all downpayments are non-refundable. Harts and The Lost Tribe ask for TT$2,000 (US$320), and The Lost Tribe wants it within five days of registering.
Can I enjoy Trinidad Carnival on a small budget?
Yes. Watching the Parade of the Bands from the roadside costs nothing, and you can choose a J'ouvert band or a handful of fetes instead of a full pretty mas costume. The biggest savings come from booking flights and accommodation early and sharing rooms and transport with friends.
Should I budget in TT dollars or US dollars?
Both. Bands publish prices in Trinidad and Tobago dollars with US dollar equivalents beside them, so you can see exactly what you will pay. Local spending such as street food and maxi taxis is in TT dollars, so carry some local cash as well as a card.
